How Products Earn an ENERGY STAR® Certification

The government has established the ENERGY STAR® label to help homeowners pick products that are more energy-efficient. But how does a product qualify for this certification?

Energy Efficiency Requirements

A product must increase energy savings, and its features and performance should fulfill the demands of customers.

The energy consumption and performance can be measured and verified with testing. Once it passes the assessment, it will be labeled to help customers differentiate them from other products.

Renewal by Andersen has been a part of the ENERGY STAR® program since it was established. We were the first window company to be given the ENERGY STAR National Window Partner of the Year award. In fact, we were again awarded with the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Sustained Excellence Award in 2019.

Energy-Efficient Doors and Windows

An energy-efficient window features quality, durable and low-maintenance frame materials that reduce heat transfer and provide good insulation. It must have multiple glass panes for increased energy efficiency, impact resistance and sound insulation. Special coatings act as protection from infrared and ultraviolet (UV) light, and provide better insulation. Gas fills like argon, krypton or other gases also increase insulation.

Doors with the ENERGY STAR label feature multiple glass panes to reduce heat flow. They are made of high-quality and durable materials. A magnetic strip can also be included for a tighter seal that reduces air leakage on the edges.
