3 Ways to Use Your Bay Window

A bay window can add a good amount of space to your home. Even better than this, however is that you can use the extra space for a variety of purposes depending on where you install the window.

Built-In Banquette

One of the most common ways of using the space in your bay window area is to create a dining nook. It’s also quite practical as it allows you to turn the space into something functional. You just have to take note of a few things to ensure your banquette would be comfortable.

First, consider the height of the seat and the table, and make sure there’s plenty of legroom. Also, the back cushions should be at the right height. However, if you want a more casual look and your bay window is at ground level, you can simply build a bench without a back support. Another alternative is going with a high windowsill. This way, you can still have back support even without a built-in upholstered back.

Floor-to-Ceiling Bay Window

Floor-to-ceiling bay windows are a great alternative to patio doors if you want to bring in more sunlight, but don’t really have an outdoor space. This type of window, however, can be a concern if your home is located in a more populated area where people pass by and can easily your interiors.

Built-In Desk

This is best done if there are no baseboard heaters, and the windowsill is at a proper height for the desktop. Alternatively, you can opt for a freestanding desk if you want to be able to rearrange the furniture in the future and keep the bay window open for other uses.
